You know what I don’t understand? Why pride jewelry is so damn tacky. Who thought half of that mess was cute? I mean especially the bracelets and necklaces, it looks like a 7yr old Girl Scout made them (believe me I would know). Then there are the rainbow colored chain link pieces…shudder. Even the “upscale” (meaning unnecessarily expensive) stuff is boring looking. What I really can’t figure out though is why all of the jewelry is in silver. Silver is not my color; I need gold.
I’ve been thinking about custom pieces (more on that later) and looking at jewelry that really wasn’t “pride” intended, but none the less would pass for pride stuff (see left). I’m definitely not spending a lot on any of this either, since I’m not going to wear rainbows all day everyday. It’s cool to wear it here and there, but I’m not about to walk around looking like Rainbow Brite.

Skinny Bone Jones spoke on Dec 05 08 at 12:21 amI really loved Rainbow Brite EVERYTHING when I was wee. Nowadays? Not so much. In fact, it’s v. difficult for me to imagine anything rainbow that doesn’t make me want to snark on yr ass with the quickness. (Not you, personally, of course. In general.)
It’s a problem. We need a “thing” that isn’t twee or hideous.

There should be much classier and trendier means to represent. I’ve seen some beautiful rainbow jewelry at Carlyle & Co. Do you have one in your area?
